Hudson Valley Antiques Guide
The 150-mile stretch north of New York City along the Hudson River has long been a draw for those seeking diverse pursuits. History, culture and the arts, seasonal food and local wine, outdoor sports and cabin getaways are some of the area attractions.
The region has long-been a draw for another breed of traveler, the antique enthusiast. Scattered across its ten counties, the Hudson Valley is home to a smorgasbord of antique centers, flea markets, vintage and junk shops. As well as an on-going rotation of estate sales, auctions, and yard sales.
To help you get started planning your antique shopping adventures, I have created this Hudson Valley Antiques Guide!
Whether you’re completely new to the world of antiques, a hobbyist or a roadshow veteran, this Hudson Valley Antiques Guide has something to offer. Since there is such a high concentration of antique shops in the region, it is essential to do your homework before you dive in.
While it can be fun to spend hours aimlessly wandering aisles of old treasures, it’s best to go in with a sense of what you’re looking for and a strategic plan of action.
And that’s exactly why I created this Hudson Valley Antiques Guide – so you can make the most of your visit while you are here!
Follow these simple tips to master the art of antiquing:
- First, start by visiting the bookstore for general guides on antiques and collectibles.
- Secondly, Read up on different styles and periods to get a feel for what you like and what kind of prices to expect.
- Then, don’t be afraid to try your hand at a little bargaining. Open the negotiating floor by expressing your appreciation for the piece and politely asking, “Is this your best price? Would you be willing to go lower?”
- Purchase multiple items at a time and when stores are getting ready to close. Dealers want to get a last-minute sale for the day and will provide discounts.
- Finally, with all this in mind, the most essential thing is of course to have fun!
Antiquing is all about the excitement of stumbling upon those one-of-a-kind, special pieces that you just can’t live without. To help you in your treasure hunt, we’ve listed a few of the best shops in the Hudson Valley. I hope you enjoy our Hudson Valley Antiques Guide!
