Winter Snowmobiling In Chautauqua County

New York State (NYS) and Chautauqua County make for perfect snowmobile trail options for all who visit. Because of its proximity to major lakes like Lake Erie, lake-effect snow transforms Western New York into a winter wonderland.

Whether you’re an amateur rider or an avid snowmobiler, here’s everything you’ll need to know for your winter Chautauqua travels.

Out-Of-State Snowmobile

If you’re bringing your snowmobiles this season, be sure to stop by the New York DMV on your way up to the snow belt. The NY DMV requires every snowmobile to be registered with its department before it can hit the trails, despite being registered in another state.

During the season, running from December to March, you can acquire temporary snowmobile registration from the NY State DMV. If you’re out of state and you’d prefer to receive a card immediately, register your snowmobile online.

How To Register

While You Ride

As a rider you are required to carry your registration and proof of insurance, should it need to be presented to a law enforcement officer.

Where To Go Snowmobiling

Snowmobilers have Lake Erie to thank for the lake effect snow which makes these trails so plentiful. Trail riding is not only possible but these conditions make Western New York a premier snowmobile destination.
