The northern Catskills region is living through a restaurant renaissance. With 35 peaks cover 6,000 miles the Catskills are in an upswing since their original peak in the 1970’s.

Catskill Mountain Country Store, A Restaurant Near Hunter and Windham Mountain

Yes, it’s a country store, yes it sells homemade fudge, mugs and souvenirs but do you know what else it sells? Delicious food! The Catskill Mountain Country Store is your one stop shop for your entire vacation!

This delectable diner was opened in 1994 and has served food and baked goods straight from Pop Pop Siegfried’s recipes (the current owners grandfather).

Don’t forget they have a garden center, a small zoo and walking paths. They do have a secondary location in Tannersville, NY but the Windham location is far superior.

Plus, they’re building a new Maple Sugar House and a farm animal rescue! Anyway, back to the food.

Hunter Mountain Brewery

Right behind the Windham Post Office is Ze Windham Wine Bar. It was listed one of the 25 best wine bars in the US by Travel and Leisure Magazine in 2018 and the number 1 Bar in Upstate New York by Hudson Valley!

The Sommelier, Cordelia, is a passionate Sommelier with a career that spans almost 20 years. She started working at Ze Windham Wine Bar in 2015 and became a Sommelier through the Court of Master Sommeliers.

The Chief Creative Gastronomer and Cultural Gourmet, Jessika, was born in Sweden. She ventured to New York in the early 70’s and is a mother to 6 wonderful children. Jessika works hand-in-hand with Cordelia to bring mouth-watering bites to match with your wine palate at Ze Windham Wine Bar.

The Tool-King and German Beer Connoisseur, Peter, wants you to experience an authentic German beer. He left Germany in 1968 to Canada where he became a master-jeweler before relocating to New York. This is where he met the love of his life, Jessika! He is now retired but can be seen wandering around with a drill in his hand or a refill for a guest. His attention to detail is unmatched and has made Ze Windham Wine Bar what it is today!

Millrock Restaurant

This quaint restaurant owned by John and Justine Gulino is a lively spot inspired by Italian Traditions and American Roots. The Gulino’s opened Millrock Restaurant in 1996 on historic Main Street right in downtown Windham.

They are home to a wood fired oven which brings out the most delicious thin-crust pizzas filled with seasonal and local ingredients from farms in the area! They also serve pasta, fresh seafood and carefully curated meat cuts.

Don’t forget to check out their wine list! Their specific selection is made up of Italian and domestic reds.

The Chicken Run is first and foremost a family restaurant and steakhouse! They’re overlooking the Windham Ski area and is the perfect place to stop after a day on the slopes.

They focus on atmosphere and comfort food that is nutritious and delicious. They also have a Restaurant and Bar extension where you can enjoy an array of homemade goodness.

Whether you want chicken, steak, or ribs you’ll find what you’re looking for! All of the meat is cut fresh and cooked with the intent on satisfaction. They even age their own steaks!

Throughout the summer your ears will be filled with the noise of live music in this ranch style restaurant. They also have a Beer Garden, and they show movies on the deck for kids to enjoy. There’s even a fire-pit that you can roast marshmallows on!

Bistro Brie & Bordeaux

Well we’ve hit American cuisine, American-Italian cuisine, and even German cuisine! Now let’s move on over to a French country restaurant in the heart of the Catskills: Bistro Brie & Bordeaux!

The home of the Bistro is the original home to the Windham Journal Newspaper back in 1875! The owners used old photographs to restore the gable roof, cedar clapboard siding and they kept as many of the original wood beams inside the restaurant.

The Executive Chef is one of the owners! Stéphane Desgaches is proud to call Windham his home and the Bistro Brie & Bordeaux is his 5th restaurant opening, but the first one he did on his own! He earned his Certificate d’Aptitude Profesionnelle De Cuisine from François Rabelais and has worked with many of Europes finest chefs all over the world!

His partner, Claudia Desgaches, has worked in the business for over 20 years herself! Together they make a star team and a star restaurant that will feel like you’ve ventured into the French country side.

Taphouse Grille
